arcade fire-HMH amsterdam 13/11/07
November 16, 2007, 3:12 am
rules,regulations,health and safety

we head down to the bijlmer-the new modern face of
amsterdam-offices,ikea,the arena stadium,multiplex
cinemas , shopping malls.......
and the heineken music hall -a big grey box with terrible
acoustics that serves as a venue for "big"acts who
have outgrown the melkweg or paradiso.
normally we avoid big gigs but we make an exception
for the arcade fire-we like their music and they have
a great live reputation.
the show is sold out,the place is packed-we queue for
the cloakroom, queue for drink tokens ,queue for the bar
and queue for the toilet .no fun.
we watch from the edge of the crowd as the band takes
the stage.the music takes over.

the arcade fire are hard to define or label.
a 10 man group combining modern electric
and traditional acoustic instruments into one
unique textured sound- rich and orchestral.
sometimes there is a hint of velvet underground simplicity
or talking heads quirkyness .some songs we know, some
not......and others have become personal anthems.

we have to wait until the encore to hear our anthem
"keep the car running" ......
finally we get the moment of musical magic we hoped
for -those 4 minutes were worth paying €35 for

things have changed a lot since the birth of gidionics journal
2 years ago.
as cameraphone photography pioneers we were proved right-
what was initially seen by most as a gimmick has now become
a revolution in the way that people record their lives.
evolution.
we have finally retired our sony ericsson k750i after 2.5 years
of loyal service.
the k850i takes it's place....
